I love every single member of this team and their quirky personalities. Again, the weird Pikmin humor is just something I’ve come to expect at this point, but this game is just genuinely really funny. However, what really made me take a shine to these characters was the way they were written. But the team of three really amps up on the productivity factor, and it’s all smooth sailing once you get the hang of it. This is especially true for someone like me, who’s just not that good at micromanaging multiple tasks at once and who particularly despises the idea of leaving chunks of my Pikmin go unsupervised. Having three playable characters at your disposal is honestly A LOT. The Pikmin behave a lot more intelligently and the many more ways in which you can control your troops really made this game super satisfying to play. The leaders having a bit more agency in the action was nice, but having to toss the characters themselves around for a few puzzles was a little annoying. I was worried I would really miss the motion controls from the Wii ports of 1 and 2, but all the mechanic changes made to the controls here were really well thought out. This game managed to build upon a formula which I honestly believe is quite difficult to make both fun and engaging at the same time. This speaks volumes for Pikmin 3 as a whole. They managed to perfectly introduce a brand new gimmick EVERY single time and really make you have to think your strategy thoroughly. ![]() Every single boss battle in this game, without exception, was as challenging and enthralling as the bosses themselves were visually appealing. The Quaggled Mireclops, the Scornet Maestro, the Vehemoth Phosbat… Insert audible gasp. I went through the game thoroughly excited for the next boss I would encounter and I was never once not positively surprised. Their names, their color schemes, their proportions… It’s all just really, really fascinating. The Pikmin franchise is well-known for its wacky character designs at this point, but Pikmin 3 goes above and beyond in this aspect and delivers some of the most crazy looking creatures I have EVER seen in a fantasy setting. The enemies all look much more lively and exotic and the sheer variety of scenery in all of these biomes makes them feel right at home. The camera also does a fantastic job of letting you fully explore your surroundings and analyze every detail of these environments to your heart’s content. Every single location in this game is just absolutely magnificent. Pikmin 3 is everything that I had hoped for and more! First of all, the visuals are incredible. This whole thing could not have been a more enjoyable experience. And now, almost 10 years later, getting to finally experience Pikmin 3 on my Nintendo Switch feels like a full circle moment for me. I was beyond ecstatic when Pikmin 3 finally got announced, even though I was too poor for a Wii U and probably wouldn’t get to play it (or even emulate it) for a long time. ![]() Something about the quirky characters, the unique gameplay and the fluid controls roped me in like not many other videogames had done at that point in my life. This happened nearly 10 years ago, when I played the original Pikmin on my Nintendo Wii for the very first time. 15h 36m PlayedI’ve been obsessed with Pikmin as a whole ever since I first discovered this franchise.
